An amount of $600 is shared among three people in the ratio 1 : 2 : 3 , find the difference between the smallest and the largest share

Explanation:

Total amount to be distributed is $600.

Ratio of distribution is 1:2:3

Let the smallest share be x

Then the other shares will be 2x and 3x as per the ratio of distribution.

But sum of all shares is 600.


\[=> x+2x+3x=600\]


\[=> 6x=600\]


\[=> x=(600)/(6)\]


\[=> x=100\]

So the respective shares are 100,200 and 300.

Difference between the largest and smallest share is
\[300-100 = 200\]
