Is this a valid or invalid statement Whenever the battery is dead, the screen goes blank; that means, of course, that whenever the screen goes blank, the battery is dead.

Answer:

That statement is invalid.

Step-by-step explanation:

Most computers with batteries will not use every last bit of battery then shut down. A small amount is preserved so the computer can completely shutdown to avoid data loss. Just because a screen has gone black does not mean it has run out of power. It could also be in sleep mode, or some other state while not in use.
