area of trapezoid/trapezium =
(h)/(2) *(a+b)

h=height

a and b are the parallel sides (top 2.5 and bottom 6 in this pic)

so
(5)/(2) *(2.5+6) = (5)/(2)*(8.5) = (42.5)/(2) = 21.25
