5 quarts. Split the shape into a rectangle and two triangles on the sides. find the area of the rectangle using length times width (7x4=28) find the area of the triangles using 1/2 times length times width (1/2x4x3=6) add all of them together to get 40. divide 40 by 8 to get how many quarts are needed
