What value of x makes this equation true?

5x+3=2x-3

Let's solve this equation.

Step 1

Move the numbers to the right:-

5x=2x-3-3

Step 2

Move the x's to the left

5x-2x=-3-3

Notice I use the opposite operation :)

Step 3

Combine like terms

3x=-6x

Step 4

Divide both sides by 3

x=-2

That's the value of x that makes the equation true.
