Chemical bonds refers to forces of attraction between atoms of elements.
They may be formed through sharing of electrons or transfer of electrons among or between atoms.
When electrons are transferred from one atom to another then a chemical bond known as ionic bond is formed.
On the other hand, when electrons are shared between non-metal atoms, it is known as covalent bond
For example, to form calcium chloride, electrons are transferred from calcium atom to two chlorine atoms.
Therefore, the chemical bond contained in calcium chloride is an ionic bond.
