After reading a low of -16°F at 10 P.M.,

the temperature began rising an average
of 3 degrees an hour. What was the
thermometer reading at 1 A.M.?

Explanation:

First determine the number of hours that have past from 10PM to 1 AM

10PM to 11 PM is 1 Hour

11PM to 12 AM is 1 Hour

12AM to 1 AM is 1 hour

for a total of 3 hours

Next multiply the average number of degrees the temperature is rising by the number of hours that passed

3 x 3 =9 which is the total number of degrees the temperature has risen by.

Now add 9 to -16

-16 + 9 = -7
