The length of a rectangle is 5 more than twice its width. If the perimeter is 58 cm, find the dimensions.

Select one:
O a. W = 21 cm and I = 8 cm
O b. W = 12 cm and I = 29 cm
O C. W = 8 cm and I = 21 cm

Answer:

Length = 21 cm

width = 8 cm

Explanation:

let L represent the length ,w the width and P the perimeter

L = 2w + 5

P = 2(L + w) = 2((2w+5) + w) = 6w + 10

on the other hand P = 58 then 6w + 10 = 58 ⇒ 6w = 48 ⇒ w = 8

Since L = 2w + 5 ⇒ L = L = 2(8) + 5 = 21
