What might have been the consequences if Johnson & Johnson had decided to ""tough out"" the first reports of Tylenol-related deaths and not recall the product?

Answer:

Even though the poisoning of Tylenol bottles happened at a distribution center and not a factory, the company didn't have any certainty about it yet. If they had delayed the recall of the product, many more people might have died as a consequence of the poisoned bottles. Besides the legal costs of multiple deaths, the public image of the company would have been shattered. People would have probably stopped buying Tylenol completely because it is a type of medicine, it is not supposed to kill you .
