Rotation is the spinning of an object in one place. Revolution is the circling of an object in a given orbit (path).

Step-by-step explanation:

When the earth rotates, it spins on its own axis which is tilted at 23.5 degrees. Thus, we can conclude that the earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours relative to the Sun.

When the Earth completes one revolution around the sun in a fixed orbit in 365.25 days. This means the earth takes approximately 365 days to completely encircle around the sun and return back to its original position.

(The extra .25 day is added every year to make up one full day. Hence, we see a leap year every 4 years).
