we have

x + y = 3

+ 2x -y = 3

x = 2

substitute for x = 2 in equation 1 to get the value of y

x+y=3 .................. equation 1

2 + y = 3

y = 3 -1

y =2

therefore the value of x and y is 2 & 1 respectively
