In a entertainment programme, 250 tickets Rs. 400 and 500 tickets of Rs.100 were sold. If the entertainment tax is 40% on ticket of Rs. 400 and 20% on ticket of Rs. 100, find how much entertainment tax was collected from the programme.

Answer:

Rs 50,000

Explanation:

40% = 0.4

20% = 0.2

Cost of Rs 400 tickets:

250×400 = 100,000

40% tax:

40% of 100000 = 0.4×100000 = 40,000

Cost of Rs 100 tickets:

500×100 = 50,000

20% tax:

20% of 50000 = 10,000

Total tax= 40,000 + 10,000 = 50,000

Alternately,

0.4(250)(400) + 0.2(500)(100)

= 50000

Rs 50,000 is the tax collected
