"288 tiles" does he need to cover the floor.

Explanation:

Given,

The length of the floor (l) = 9 feet = 9 × 12 inches = 108 inches and

The breadth of the floor (b) = 8 feet = 8 × 12 inches = 96 inches

To find, the total number of tiles = ?

∴ The area of the floor = The length of the floor (l) × The breadth of the floor (b)

= 108 inches × 96 inches

Also,

The area of tiles = 6 inches × 6 inches

∴ The total number of tiles
= (The area of the floor)/(The area of tiles)

=(108 inches* 96 inches)/(6 inches* 6 inches)

=(108* 96)/(6* 6)

= 3 × 96

= 288

∴ The total number of tiles = 288

Thus, "288 tiles" does he need to cover the floor.
