The correct answer is 4

The conditions that pushed Jonathan Edwards to his knees that Sunday were, in fact, very black. The God-fearing generation that originally came to settle in the region was no more. The new generation was quite different. Immorality, debauchery, selfish interests reigned. Few were interested in the life to come. Even those who were still attached to the outward appearances of religion had lost its essence.

The list of church members dwindled more and more. Conditions were so critical in 1662 that the main ministers of the churches in Massachusetts decided to take action to help, but that, on the contrary, made the situation even worse. They adopted something they called the “Mid-Term Alliance”. People who could not confess that they were born again could still take their children to be baptized - as long as they agreed with the doctrinal faith of the church and did not have “scandalous behavior”. When their children grew up, if they too could not testify that they were converted, they would be deprived of only one privilege: participating in the Lord's Supper.
