8÷2(2+2)=? I came up with an answer, but others have come up with different answers based on way we were taught. Would like your profession opinion. If you could show your work in the steps in which you did them, would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Answer:

16

Explanation:

Okey dokey my dude, here's the deal. All you have to do to answer this is use order of operations (parentheses exponents multiplication division addition subtraction).

8÷2(2+2)=?

//parenthesis first

8÷2(4)

//Ok here's where people will mess up. They just look at the problem and assume that you should multiply the 2 and (4) first because the 4 is in parenthesis. That's understandable, but wrong. What the equation should really look like is 8÷2·4. So you should do 8÷2 first.

8÷2·4=?

4·4=?

16=16
