Two cars leave from the same location but travel opposite directions. The first car travels an average of 50 mi/hr and leaves 15 minutes before the second car, which travels an average of 55 mi/hr. How long will each car travel before they are 200 mi apart?

First car will take 121.2 minutes

Second car will take 108 minutes

Explanation:

The first car travels at 50 mi/hr

After 121.2 minutes, the distance traveled is = (50/60) mi/min × 121.2 = 101 miles

Second car travel at 55 mi/hr

After 108 minutes, the distance traveled = (55/60) mi/min × 108 = 99 miles

Total amount of miles travel by first car and second car after 121.2 minutes and 108 minutes respectively = 200 miles
