The human lens is an adjustable, transparent and biconvex structure which helps focus light on the image to be formed on the retina. Due to the flexibility and adjustable nature of the lens it adjust the focal length of the eye in other to permit objects at various distances to be focused on and thus formed on the retina.

The human lens also functions in conjunction with the cornea to aid diffraction and refraction of light entering into the eye through the pupil.
