Answer:

a. y = 10.25x - 60

b. $60

c. 6 hours

Explanation:

To find slope of table we use rise/run aka change in y/change in x

  1. Get two y values, and two x values, ex: (13,73.25),(40,350), now find the change in y and x respectively, (350-73.25)/(40-13) = 276.75/27 = 10.25
  2. The slope is 10.25, now we find the y-intercept or the amount of money she starts at, using the equation, y = mx+b, m being the slope, b being the y-intercept, y/x being the axes.
  3. We plug in a x,y value on the same row, along with the slope we just found. 350 = (10.25)(40) + b, 350 = 410 + b, b = -60.
  4. Therefore the equation is y = 10.25x - 60

To find the amount of money she spent on her uniform, we can look at the value she started with.

  1. We find the y-intercept, which is already found in the previous question (a).
  2. The y-intercept or amount she payed for her uniform is $60

To find the amount hours, we can plug in values for y, to solve for x. 'y' is the axis for earnings, so if we set 'y' to 0, that would mean that 'x' amount of hours would make -60 become 0

  1. Set up the equation: 0 = 10.25x-60
  2. Solve for x: 60 = 10.25x, x ~= 5.85 hours
  3. Note that you have to round up to 6 hours because Erin is paid hourly, and working for only 5 hours is not enough, thus the answer would be 6 hours.
