A barn was the home for ducks and cows. If there were 97 animals in the barns and there were 354 legs in the barn, how many cows

were in the barn.

Number of cows =80

Explanation:

Let

x ----> the number of ducks

y ---> the number of cows

we know that

Total animals are 97

so


x+y=97 ----> equation A

The duck has two legs and the cow has four legs

so


2x+4y=354 ----> equation B

Solve the system by graphing

Remember that the solution is the intersection point both graphs

using a graphing tool

The solution is the point (17,80)

see the attached figure

therefore

The number of ducks are 17 and the number of cows are 80
