the first number is 9 less then the sum of the other two

x = (x + 1) + (x + 2) - 9 ....combine like terms

x = 2x + 3 - 9

x = 2x - 6

x - 2x = -6

-x = -6

x = 6

x + 1 = 6 + 1 = 7

x + 2 = 6 + 2 = 8
