Jasmine is trying to replace the flooring in her rectangular bedroom. When she measured the width and length of the floor, she found that the length is 5 ft. longer than the width. If the perimeter of the room is 50 ft., how much flooring will she need to replace the existing flooring in her room?

Answer:

150ft^2

Explanation:

FINDING THE LENGTHS

50 = x + 5 + x + x + 5 + x

50 = 4x + 10

50 - 10 = 4x

40 = 4x

40/4 = x

10ft = x

AMOUNT OF FLOORING

area = l x b

= (10 + 5) x 10

= 15 x 10

= 150ft^2
