Why does the moon have craters in it?

Answer:

Because the Earth has an atmosphere, the Moon has more craters than the Earth. While we sweep up a lot more things because of our higher gravity, the majority of it burns up on entrance and never reaches the earth. Earth also possesses liquid water. This is significant in two ways: first, most things that strike water do not create a crater, and second, water erodes previous craters.
