Answer:

Equation is y = (3/2)x - 2

The graph is shown below.

==========================================================

Step-by-step explanation:

The general linear equation in slope intercept form is y = mx+b

  • m = slope
  • b = y intercept

We're given m = 3/2 and b = -2 to lead directly to y = (3/2)x - 2

This is the same as writing
y = (3)/(2)x-2

-------------------

To graph this, we'll need two points.

The first point that's the easiest to find is the y intercept (0,-2). The y intercept always occurs when x = 0. This is the location where the graph crosses the y axis.

To get another point, we'll use the slope. Start at (0,-2) and do the following moves:

  • Move up 3 units
  • Move to the right 2 units

The "up 3, right 2" motion is directly pulled from the slope of 3/2 because slope = rise/run = 3/2.

When starting at (0,-2) and doing the "up 3, right 2" motion, we arrive at the point (2,1)

Plot (0,-3) and (2,1) on the same xy grid. Draw a straight line through the two points as shown below. Extend the line out as far as you can to the left and right.

I used GeoGebra to make the graph, which is a free graphing app. Desmos is another good option. I'm sure there are tons of other options as well.
