Kevin loves the new video game rental store and he has a membership. When Kevin rented 2 games, he had spent a total of $25 of his money. When Kevin rented 2 more video games (4 total), he then had spent $30 total of his money at this store all together. Write an equation in Slope-Intercept Form to model how much Kevin pays per x video game rentals with his store membership.

Answer:

Explanation:

Let x represent the number of video games that Kevin rents.

Let y represent the total amount that he paid for x video games rental.

The slope intercept form of an equation is expressed as

y = mx + c

Where

m = slope

c = intercept

When Kevin rented 2 games, he had spent a total of $25 of his money. When Kevin rented 2 more video games (4 total), he then had spent $30 total of his money at this store all together. Therefore,

Slope, m = (30 - 25)/(4 - 2) = 5/2 = 2.5

To determine the intercept, c, we will substitute m = 2.5, x = 4 and y = 30 into y = mx + c. It becomes

30 = 2.5 × 4 + c

30 = 10 + c

c = 30 - 10 = 20

The Slope-Intercept Form to model how much Kevin pays per x video game rentals with his store membership becomes

y = 2.5x + 20

The cost per video game rental is $2.5

The membership fee is $20
