Simon class donated
7(4)/(5) \text{ or } 8 boxes of books

Solution:

Given that,

On Monday Simon's class filled
3(2)/(5) boxes with books to donate

On Wednesday the class filled
4(2)/(5) more boxes with books

To find: total number of boxes of books donated

Total number of boxes of books donated = boxes filled in monday + boxes filled in wednesday

From given statement,

Boxes of books filled in monday =
3(2)/(5) = (5 * 3 +2)/(5) = (17)/(5)

Boxes of books filled in wednesday =
4(2)/(5) = (5 * 4+2)/(5) = (22)/(5)

Therefore,

Total number of boxes of books donated =
(17)/(5) + (22)/(5)

\rightarrow (17)/(5) + (22)/(5) = (17+22)/(5) = (39)/(5) = 7(4)/(5) = 7.8\\\\\rightarrow 7.8 \approx 8

Thus simon class donated
7(4)/(5) \text{ or } 8 boxes of books
