Answer:

4 drinks and 8 candies

Explanation:

Set up an equation.

d= drinks

c= candy

This is a system of equations so there are two equations:

c+d=12

5.50d + 3.75c = 52

Solve the first equation for either variable.

c= -d+12

plug that into the 2nd equation.

5.50d + 3.75(-d +12) =52

Solve for d.

5.50d-3.75d+45=52

1.75d= 7

d= 4

plug 4 for "d" into equation 1.

c+4=12

c=8
