The bathyscaphe did not stay under water for long during the time of first dive.

Step-by-step explanation:

Piccard made his first test dive on the 26th of October in 1948. It was made off the coast of Africa in a bathyscaphe which is a large, hollow vessel whose shape is spherical and is made out of thick steel. The first test dive was made in water where the seabed was just twelve fathoms below the surface.

There were iron weights which were attached to the bathyscaphe in which Piccard had dived into water. These iron weights were detached from the bathyscaphe after a short time only because of which the bathyscaphe come on the surface of water and did not remain in water for a long period of time.
