English culture has evolved through influences with many neighbouring cultures.
The Normans had an impact on the English language, in so far as Old English began to evolve into Middle English, because Old English lost it's West Saxon standardisation.
There are very few French words in early Middle English. The English language did not start to pick up French words until the 14th century.
