The driver of a car traveling at a speed of 40 miles per hour had to stop the car quickly. If the driver`s reaction time was 34 of a second, approximately how many feet did the car travel during the driver`s reaction time? (1 mile = 5,280 feet)

The sentence "If the driver`s reaction time was 34 of a second" has to be changed as "If the driver`s reaction time was 3/4 of a second"

If the driver drives at a speed of 40 miles per hour, it means s/he travels

40 × 5280 = 211200 feet per hour.

1 hour is 60 minutes and 1 minute is 60 seconds.

That is, 1 hour is 3600 seconds.

Therefore the driver travels
(211200)/(3600) feet in a second.

And since the reaction time is
(3)/(4) =0.75 of a second, the car travels
(211200)/(3600 ) * (3)/(4)=44 feet during the reaction time.
