PLEASE HELP The ratio of athletes in the two teams is 3:2. After 12 athletes move from first team to second, the ratio is 5:4. Find the number of athletes on each team originally.

3,6,9,12= 4
2,4,6,8,10,12= 6

So it is 4 and 6

Answer:

You can use the method of substitution and elimination.

Team A : Team B

3x : 2x

-12 +12

5y : 4y

3x-12=5y ---> (1)

2x+12=4y ---> (2)

12x-48=20y

10x+60=20y

12x-48=10x+60

12x-10x=48+60

= 108

2x=108

x=54

Original number of athletes on Team A = 3(54)

= 162

Original number of athletes on Team B = 2(54)

= 108
