Final answer:

To find the number of first-year teachers at a staff meeting with 30 teachers where 60% were first-year teachers, multiply 30 by 0.60, which gives you 18 first-year teachers.

Step-by-step explanation:

The student asked how many first-year teachers were in attendance at a school staff meeting with 30 teachers if 60% of them were first-year teachers. To calculate this, we need to find 60% of 30. The calculation goes as follows:

  • Convert the percentage to a decimal: 60% = 0.60
  • Multiply this decimal by the total number of teachers: 0.60 × 30 = 18

Therefore, there were 18 first-year teachers at the meeting.

Answer:

I personally think the answer is because if the 60% of the teachers among 30 teachers were first-year teachers, then it would mean the other 40 % of the teachers were recent/ this year teachers.
