Nepal's agricultural sector is dominated by major crop production. About 82% of arable land is grown for grain, but the main staple crops account for only about 30% of gross domestic product (GRP). Since the proportion of high value-added crops in the total cultivated area is still small, the desired process of agricultural diversification cannot be seen as a whole. Using agriculture for a living wage suppresses growth and is less conducive to poverty and food insecurity.
