During football game the ball advanced 4yd, retreated 10 yd, and then advanced 2yd. Where did the ball finish in relation to it’s starting point?

It moved forward 4 yards, then back 10 yards:

4-10 = -6

It is now -6 yards from where it started.

It then moved 2 yards forward from there:

4-6 + 2 = -4

The ball finished -4 yards from the original location.
