One number exceeds another by 3. One third of their sum is 5 less than the smaller number. Find the numbers

18 and 21 (I think)

Explanation:

So, lets assume the equation is x + x + 3 is the 2 numbers (number 1 is x)

then divide by 3

You get: (2x+3)/3 = x-5

then, multiply both sides by 3:

2x+3=3x-15

Simplify:

18 = x

18 is the smaller number

21 is the bigger one. (18+3)
