Zachary travels on a journey of 50 miles. He spends half of

his time riding his horse and half of his time walking. When he
rides his horse, he covers 9 miles every hour. When he walks,
he covers 3 miles every hour. How much time does it take
him to complete the journey?

I divided 50 miles by 2 = 25 miles (walked) 25 miles (horseback)
I divided 25 by 3 = 8.33
I divided 25 by 9 = 3
Added together = 8.33 + 3 = 11.33
So time to complete the journey 11.33 hour

50/2 = 25

Therefore he spent 25 miles on his horse and 25 miles walking

He covers 9 miles every hour on his horse

25/9 = 2
(7)/(9) hours

He covers 3 miles every hour walking

25/3 = 8
(1)/(3) hours

Total time taken to complete his journey = 2
(7)/(9) + 8
(1)/(3) = 11
(1)/(9) hours
