explain how involved the US government was in fixing social problems and influence in foreign countries

The US, at the time, was called the beacon of hope. If you wanted people to go to your country, you had to emulate what the US was doing. Naturally, this gave the US a lot of power over other countries, to the point where some were basically puppets.
