PLEASE HELP

I’m not sure why it’s hard for me to find an answer I can understand, but can anyone explain why Mao Zedong started the Long March in 1934?

Answer:

With defeat looming, the Communists determined to break out from the encirclement at its weakest spots, and on October 16, 1934, the Long March started. The Nationalists were befuddled by secrecy and other tactics, and it took many weeks before they recognized the Red army's main bulk had departed. Long Expedition) was a military retreat by the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) Red Army, the progenitor of the People's Liberation Army, to avoid the Kuomintang army's pursuit.
