Top performing college students in a known university plan to put

up a tutorial center for high school students. They agree that the
price will be +500 if a student will be tutored for 2 hours. However,
the price will be $700 if a student will be tutored for 3 hours. If
the relationship between the cost and time is linear, what is the
price when the student will be tutored for 4 hours? How long can
a student be tutored for *1,000?

Answer:

a) $900

b) 4 1/2 hours

Explanation:

The price goes up by $200 for the additional hour between 2 and 3 hours of tutoring. If the relationship is linear, it will go up $200 again, from $700 to $900, as the time goes up from 3 hours to 4 hours.

The cost for 4 hours is $900.

__

The session costing $1000 is only $100 more than a 4-hour session. Since the rate is $200 per hour, that $100 will pay for 1/2 hour more than 4.

A student can be tutored 4 1/2 hours for $1000.
