HI PLEASE HELP ME QUICK I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS

Here is a set of signed numbers: 7, -3, 1/2, -.8, .8, 1/10, -2
1) If their numbers represent temperatures in degrees Celsius, which is the coldest?

-3 would probably be the coldest

Explanation:

based on my research the higher the number in celsius the hotter it is. the lower the number the colder it is. and since -8 is the lowest it is the coldest temperature.

so the choices are

7 , -3 , 1/2 , -0.8 , 0.8 , 1/10 , - 2

we can ignore the choices without the negative signs so..

-3, -0.8, and - 2

is what we have left

-0.8 would not be the coldest because it is not the lowest value

-2 would not be the coldest because it is not the lowest value

-3 is the coldest because it is the lowest value.

You may think that -3 should be the highest since it has "3", but in negative its different. -1 would be greater than -5 because it is closer to 0
