A spray paint can with a pressure of 2.50 atm is trapped inside a burning

factory. Its initial temperature is 25°C. What is the final pressure of the can
if the fire reaches a temperature of 635°C? Assume that the volume of the
can remains constant!

First convert Temperatures to Kelvin scale

  • 25°C=25+273=298K
  • 635°C=635+273=908K

Now

  • P_1=2.5atm
  • T_1=298K
  • T_2=908K

USING GAY LUSSAC's Law

\\ \sf\longmapsto P_1T_2=P_2T_1

\\ \sf\longmapsto P_2=(P_1T_2)/(T_1)

\\ \sf\longmapsto P_2=(2.5(298))/(25)

\\ \sf\longmapsto P_2=(795)/(25)

\\ \sf\longmapsto P_2=31.8atm
