1. The plasma membrane is composed primarily of phospholipids Other components include embedded protein, carbohydrates and Cholesterol.
- It helps to maintain the shape of the cell and protect it from outer substances and works as a transportation conductor
2. Each phospholipid consists of:
A. A polar head that is Hydrophilic or “water loving”.
B. Two non-polar hydrocarbon tails that are hydrophobic or “water fearing”.
- They help in transporting the fluid outside and inside the cell
3. The phospholipids arrange themselves into a phospholipids and sterols (or two layers).
- Phospholipids works as an emulsifiers and sterols help in growth development of the cell
