The fence around my rectangular back yard is 48 feet long. My yard is 3ft longer than twice the width. What is the

width of my yard?

Width = 7 ft

Length = 18 ft

Explanation:

Let's call the width by x, so if the length is 3 longer than twice the width, the length will be 2x +3

If the fence have 48 feet, it means that the sum of all the sides are 48, so we can do:

2x +3 + 2x +3 + x + x = 48

6x +6 = 48

6x = 42

x = 42/6

x = 7

Now, we called x the width, so if x=7, the width is 7ft. If the length is 2x + 3, then it will be 2•7 + 3 = 18 ft
