Place value is quite confusing at first, but it gets to be much easier. Basically, every time you add a place on a number, you are increasing its place value! Lets use number 9 for example. The one in this number is in the ones place. You know this because it is the last digit. The 4, is the tens place, since it is directly to the left of the ones place. You are increasing the place value to the left. The order of place value is:

Ones

Tens

Hundreds

Thousands

Ten thousands

Hundred thousands

Millions

Ten Millions

Hundred Millions

Billions
