Explanation:

Ann - a, Josh - j, Claire - c

  • a = j + 7
  • j = 2c
  • a + j + c = 157

Substitute a and j into last equation and solve for c:

  • (j + 7) + 2c + c = 157
  • 2c + 7 + 3c = 157
  • 5c = 150
  • c = 30

Find a and j:

  • a = 30 + 7 = 37
  • j = *30 = 60
