Explanation:

for my method I've decided to first find the value of 1x then I'm going to multiply that by 7 to get 7x.

10x + 2 = 7

firstly, we are going to subtract 2 from both sides like so:

10x + 2 - 2 = 7 - 2

if we simplify this down, you can see we now do not have to on the left side and the value has 'moved' to the right, it is now:

10x = 5

now we have the value of 10x, but that isn't what we want is it? it would hard to get 7x from our 10x so instead we are going to find 1x. you might be wondering how we can do this, it's quite simple. we are simply going to divide both sides of the equation by 10 so that our 10x becomes 1x, let me show you:

10x / 10 = 5 / 10

when simplified this becomes:

1x = 5 / 10

5/10 is equal to 1/2

so 1x = 1/2

now we are going to multiply both of these number by 7

1x multiplied by 7 = 7x

and 1/2 multiplied by 7 = 3.5

therefore:

7x = 3.5

if you don't understand anything please ask.
