Write an equation in slope intercept form given the slope and a point or given two points. Equation below:

m = -2; (7,-4)

Can someone please help me do this I don’t remember how to the answer and I need to show my work

Thank you soo much!!!

Answer:

y = -2x + 10

use the following formula:

y₁ - y = m ( x₁ - x )

using this formula:

\hookrightarrow y₁ - y = m ( x₁ - x )

\hookrightarrow y - -4 = -2 ( x - 7 )

\hookrightarrow y + 4 = -2 ( x - 7 )

\hookrightarrow y = -2x + 14 -4

\hookrightarrow y = -2x + 10

Answer:

\mathsf{y=-2x+10}

Explanation:

slope-intercept form of a linear equation: y = mx + b

(where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept)

point-slope form of a linear equation:
\mathsf{y-y_1=m(x-x_1)}

(where m is the slope and
\mathsf{(x_1,y_1)} is the point)

Given:

  • m = -7

  • \mathsf{(x_1,y_1)=(7,-4)}

Substitute these values into the point-slope equation:

\mathsf{y--4=-2(x-7)}

\mathsf{y+4=-2(x-7)}

Now rearrange to put into slope-intercept form by making y the subject:

\mathsf{y+4=-2x+14}

\mathsf{y=-2x+10}
