Explanation: The end of the apartheid in South Africa in 1990 can be regarded as a victory and a symbol for the idea of democracy, where universal suffrage (= every adults vote) allows the election of a leader / government by a majority of the voters to govern a country. The racially based exclusion of the black majority of the population during the apartheid flew in the face of a basic principle of the democratic ideal.

apartheid was a very wrong racial idea. Democracy's were important after South Africa banned apartheid in 1991 because they were South Africa's new government.
