A cylinder and a cone have the same diameter: 8 inches. The height of the cylinder is 3 inches. The height of the cone is 18 inches.

Use π = 3.14.

What is the relationship between the volume of this cylinder and this cone? Explain your answer by determining the volume of each and comparing them. Show all your work.

Answer:

Cylinder volume = 150.80 in

Cone volume = 301.44 in

Explanation:

Cylinder volume = πr²h

v= π (4)²(3)

v= π (16)(3)

v= 48π

v= 150.80 in

Cone volume: ⅓πr²h

v= ⅓π(4)²(18)

v= 96π

v= 301.44 in

Answer:

Explanation:

Cone:

radius r = 4 inches

height h = 18 inches

volume = πr²h/3 = (3.14)(4²)(18)/3 ≈ 301.44 cm³

Cylinder:

r = 4 inches

h = 3 inches

volume = πr²h = (3.14)(4²)(3) = 904.32 cm³

Volume of cylinder is three times the volume of cone.
