If 40% of a number is equal to two-third of another number, what is the ratio of the first number to the second number.?

Answer:

5:3

Explanation:

40% = 2/5

If the numbers are x and y, then

2/5 x = 2/3 y

Divide both sides by 2/5

x = (2/3 * 5/2)y

x = 10/6 y

x = 5/3 y

So the required ratio is 5 : 3.

Checking this result:

10% of 5 = 2

2/3 of 3 = 2 also.
