okay, that value is true for all graphs

let's try another

f(1) <= -|1+1|+1 = -1

for x=1 the inequality only applies for a region less or equal to -1

note that |-5| is just 5. this notation is to say "how far away from 0. -5 is just 5 units away from zero.

in terms of calculating it, it makes everything inside it positive (distance from zero is never negative)
